What is a talent pool, and why do most of them go stale?

A talent pool is the set of candidates a team has already found, contacted or interviewed, kept for future roles. Most go stale because nothing updates them: people change jobs, emails die, and nobody re-reads old pipelines. A living pool refreshes profiles and resurfaces people when they fit a new role.

The economics are compelling: candidates you already screened are the cheapest strong candidates you will ever have. The failure mode is operational, not conceptual: a spreadsheet or an ATS archive nobody queries.

Avery's version of this is the Talent Hub: ATS history imported, profiles kept fresh, past applicants resurfacing automatically when a new role fits them.
